The Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) is very pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Marsh as its new CEO.
Paul is returning to the ACA at a pivotal time in the Association’s history – with our game experiencing significant challenges at both domestic and global levels. Cricket has changed dramatically since his previous tenure between 2005 and 2014 – Paul followed Tim May as the ACA’s second CEO. In the intervening years, Paul has led the AFLPA with great distinction, and he now returns to his first sporting love, with a level of unparalleled knowledge and experience of Player Associations and of the Australian sporting landscape more generally.
Having recently played a leading role in authoring the World Cricketers’ Association’s Global Game Structure Report, Paul has broad current knowledge of the issues confronting cricket, having gathered the views of a range of the sport’s leaders and players. The report makes an incredible contribution to the world game, having identified the issues confronting it, and posturing substantive solutions to those issues.
We are fortunate to be accessing someone of such talent and experience – of such direct relevance to the future of the ACA.
On his appointment, Paul said, "I am extremely excited to be coming back to work at the ACA at a time when there are so many challenges and opportunities in cricket and for an organisation I have so much passion and respect for."
"The past 11 years at the AFL Players Association have been incredibly rewarding and I will miss the organisation and people greatly. But I am ready for a new challenge and the ACA and cricket more broadly offers plenty of these."
"I can't wait to get started in June and look forward to re-connecting with many in the cricket community but also building new relationships with our members and other stakeholders to grow the game and the opportunities for all ACA members."
ACA Chair, Greg Dyer, said that Paul obviously has all the qualities and experience that the playing group and wider membership look for in the leadership of their Association.
“Paul has an unmatched depth of experience and expertise, having spent close to two decades at the head of Australia’s leading player associations. Cricket is in his blood – his passion for our game and its players is obvious.”
“We feel very fortunate to have attracted him back to cricket as we navigate significant change in the global landscape.”
“The ACA is a leading player association providing player advocacy, promoting inclusiveness, post-career support, commercial innovation and telling the great stories of our members. We know we will be well served by Paul in continuing to champion our members interests.”
In welcoming Paul, the ACA also thanks Joe Connellan for his significant contribution in the Interim CEO role.
Paul will commence the role as the ACA CEO in early June.
