South Australian leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington has dominated WNCL and WBBL for the last few years, as well as featuring at international level for Australia multiple times.
While her impact with ball in hand is there for all to see, her impact off the field as ambassador of RSPCA South Australia is less known.
It began when Amanda-Jade won the Golden Cap for most wickets in WBBL, she decided to auction the cap on eBay, with all proceeds going towards the RSPCA, who were building a new facility in Adelaide.
Having seen her passion, and after doing some work together, the RSPCA came to Amanda-Jade with an ambassador role.
For Amanda-Jade it was a ‘no-brainer’ and something she considers as a privileged position, as animals are something very close to her heart.
So, what does the ambassador role involve?
“I hope to do as much as I can,” says Amanda-Jade.
“I will be there with them for any local community activities, or adoption days or the Million Paw Walk days, and just show my face and get the word out and help as many animals get adopted as possible.”
Amanda-Jade has a few pets herself, and her love for them extends into the wider animal community. She believes every animal deserves a home and a loving family.
Having an interest like this outside of cricket is important for Amanda-Jade, as she believes it is important for her to extend her cricket profile outside of the game.
“It allows me to raise awareness about the RSPCA, and use my contacts to do as much as I can”.
Amanda-Jade says people can get involved in community events such as the Million Paw Walks, attending fundraising days, donating, or even just getting down to the shelter and walking through the kennels to get a better understanding for these animals.
