Marsh Cup 2023-2024 Team Of The Year

13 March, 2024

The 2023-24 Marsh Cup season finished at Cricket Central in Sydney, with a comfortable win for Western Australia, as they completed a three-peat of domestic white-ball titles.

In an intense competition, WA, NSW, and Victoria all finished on five wins from seven games, with NSW beating Victoria in what was effectively a ‘mini-final’ in the last game of the season to book their spot in the final against WA.

Daniel Hughes’ incredible run of white-ball form for NSW was on display again throughout the 2023-24 season, as he finished atop of the run scorers with 453 runs at an average of 56.62, Western Australia’s Sam Whiteman finished second with 419 runs at an average of 69.83, and Victoria’s Tom Rogers incredible 196 against NSW, which was the highest score of the season, helped him to third place with 406 at an average of 58.

Western Australia’s Andrew Tye finished the season on top of the wickets tally, with 15 at an average of 23.66, and Jack Edwards led the way for NSW, as his economic 14 wickets at an average of 13.14 ranked him second. South Australia’s Jordan Buckingham started the season with a debut, and finished with the season’s best figures of 6/41 off 10 overs vs Queensland.

Upon conclusion of the season, the following players have been voted by their peers into the ACA’s Marsh One-Day Cup Team of the Year:

Daniel Hughes, NSW
Caleb Jewell, TAS
Tom F Rogers, VIC
Sam Whiteman, WA
Moises Henriques, NSW (C)
Beau Webster, TAS
Jack Edwards, NSW
Will Sutherland, VIC
Fergus O’Neill, VIC
Andrew Tye, WA
Jordan Buckingham, SA
12th – Ben Dwarshius, NSW

New South Wales has the most representatives with four, Victoria had three players voted in, Tasmania and Western Australia two each, while South Australia rounded it out with one.

The Marsh One-Day Cup proves a pivotal opportunity for State cricketers to show their white-ball talent and put themselves in contention for national selection, with multiple players getting the opportunity to debut for Australia across the recent ODI series against the West Indies, off the back of impressive Marsh Cup form.

Congratulations to those who were selected into this peer-voted side, in what is a huge achievement and a great reward for impressive individual seasons.
