Nicola Carey Voted in as Captain of ACA T20 Spring Challenge All-Star Team of the Year

2 November, 2025

As the Hurricanes made it back-to-back T20 Spring Challenge titles, their star all-rounder Nicola Carey was voted as captain by her teammates and opponents.

Carey reflected on the “special” piece of recognition

“Being recognised by your peers is always special, and as a player is something that means a lot.”

Nicola was one of three players who also made last year’s player-voted team, alongside Meg Lanning and Maddie Penna, the latter shared joint player-of-the-tournament honours, with her outstanding campaign highlighted by a century against the Thunder. Maitlan Brown’s consistent tournament with both bat and ball saw her win the honour alongside Penna.

Nic Carey’s Hurricane teammate Callie Wilson - who at 22 years old has only played 6 WBBL matches - was also voted in after she took seven wickets in four matches.

Another story from the team is the Scorchers spinners – Lilly Mills and Amy Edgar – both being voted in, with a combined 16 wickets (Mills 9, Edgar 7), as they led the Perth attack

Players from all nine teams voted, with the eight Big Bash clubs plus the ACT Meteors taking part in the competition. Players were judged on their performance in the four matches prior to the knock out-stage, meaning the final was not included.

The Scorchers led the way with their two spinners and their wicketkeeper being voted into the side, while the Stars and Hurricanes had two selections each. The Strikers, Sixers, Thunder and Renegades all had one representative each, and the Heat and Meteors didn’t have any players selected.
