Devine, Mooney lead 2021 WBBL All*Star Team

27 November, 2021

The ACA is excited to reveal its 2021 WBBL All*Star Team of the Year as voted by the players.

Sophie Devine (407 runs @ 33.91) and Beth Mooney (528 runs @ 52.8) - the star power at the top order for the Perth Scorchers, have been selected by their peers for the second successive year with the pair having a real chance at eclipsing 1,000 runs scored between them for the season tonight in the tournament final.

New Zealand and Perth Scorchers skipper Devine, who was the popular choice from the player survey to lead the side, says this award being peer-voted is a great point of difference.

“It means a great deal to be selected in this team by those who I’ve gone head-to-head with over the last two months, let alone being chosen as captain. Recognition from my peers is something I'm really humbled by,” said Devine.

“It’s a really talented team from a really strong competition that’s been fantastic to be a part of.”

Adelaide Strikers batter, Katie Mack (507 runs @ 72), only trails Mooney (528 @ 52.8) for runs scored during WBBL|07 and takes guard at number three in at the top of the All*Star Team’s middle order.

At four is India’s superstar allrounder, Harmanpreet Kaur, who was recently named Player of the Tournament by the competition’s appointed selection panel following a stunning season with bat and ball (406 runs @ 58 and 15 wickets).

Elyse Villani (439 runs @ 43.9), owner of the fourth century of the tournament with her unbeaten knock on the final game of the season before the finals, comes in at number five.

The three standout performers from the Brisbane Heat’s season follow in the batting order with the team’s wicketkeeper, Georgia Redmayne (437 runs and a competition-high 17 dismissals) ahead of Grace Harris (420 runs) and the season’s leading wicket-taker prior to the finals, Jess Jonassen (21 wickets @ 14.9).

The team’s three fast bowlers are the Melbourne Stars’ Irish international Kim Garth (15 wickets @ 17.83) and two rising stars of the game in Australia and globally in the Strikers’ Darcie Brown (19 wickets @ 16) and the Tayla Vlaeminck (13 wickets @ 22) from the Hobart Hurricanes.

Leg spinner Alana King (16 wickets @ 16) was selected as the team’s 12th player following her great season for the Scorchers which saw her finish tied as the competition’s fourth highest wicket-taker.
